On Saturday, 9 January, two of us drove to the migrant camp in Calais to deliver the load of aid from the congregation, including food, sanitation supplies, firewood and building supplies, and in response to a special request made to Bridport Unitarians, guitars and drums for the dome theatre tent.
Many thanks to Eric Lindsey Music, Catford, for donating 5 pairs of drumsticks to go with the 6 drums we collected. And many thanks indeed to the many people in the congregation who donated items and pledged money to buy items.
The so-called 'Jungle' camp in Calais holds about 6,000 migrants and refugees in a small space. It's grim, but the number and dedication of volunteers helping there is astonishing.
